There are now updated regulations regarding new boilers and heating systems, introduced in mid-2022. These fall under Part L of the Building Regulations and aim to improve energy performance in both new and existing properties.
For properties installing a completely new heating system, regulations require systems to operate at a maximum of 55 degrees Celsius. However, in many cases, it may be more beneficial to consider a renewable heating system as a long-term solution.
That said, heat pumps are not always suitable due to factors such as installation constraints or proximity to neighbouring properties.
For existing homes where only the boiler is being replaced (without changing radiators or pipework), regulations require that:
Each room has a thermostatic radiator valve
A system filter is installed
The boiler includes weather compensation
A suitable system treatment is added
